carnosine gel australia

Yes, it ships. Here is what it costs.

Buying LactiGo from Australia: what lands, what customs treats it as, and why half the people in our field reports are Australian.

Short answer

LactiGo ships to Australia from its own storefront, priced in US dollars. There is no Australian distributor, so every purchase is an import and attracts GST at the point of sale. Carnosine is not on the WADA prohibited list, and batches carry Informed Sport certification — the programme Australian sporting bodies recognise. Certification is per batch, so check the number on your own bottle rather than trusting a product claim. The regulatory question is separate. A topical making therapeutic claims falls under the TGA, and LactiGo’s US registration names menthol as its active ingredient for analgesic purposes. At ten pumps a leg a 100 ml bottle is about five sessions, so compare cost per session, not per bottle. Half the field reports here are Australian and New Zealand. That is an accident of whose network tested it first, not evidence the gel suits the sports played here.

What actually arrives

A 100 ml pump bottle, priced in US dollars, shipped internationally. There is no Australian distributor and no local retail presence, so every purchase is an import.

  • Two formulations exist: with 1.25% menthol, and without. Both list L-carnosine and magnesium sulphate.
  • Batches carry Informed Sport certification, which is the programme most Australian sporting bodies recognise.
  • At ten pumps a leg a bottle is roughly five full sessions, so compare cost per session rather than per bottle.
  • Prices on this site are the US list price. Your card will convert, and low-value imports attract GST at the point of sale.

Rules, and who to ask

Carnosine is a dipeptide your own muscle already contains and it is not on the WADA prohibited list. That covers the anti-doping question for most people.

The regulatory question is separate and we are not the people to settle it. A topical product making therapeutic claims falls under the TGA; one sold as a cosmetic does not. LactiGo’s US registration lists menthol as its active ingredient for analgesic purposes, which is a claim of exactly that kind. If you are an athlete under a national programme, check your specific batch against the Informed Sport register and take the regulatory question to your own national body rather than to a sales page.

Why so many of our reports are Australian

Keegan Smith coaches out of Australia and spent his career in professional rugby league there, so the group that tested this first was largely Australian and New Zealand based. That is an accident of who we know, not evidence that it suits the climate or the sports.

Counted across all 12 reports; most describe more than one thing. The five categories are ours, not the athletes’ — we read each report and tagged it. Nobody was asked a question from a list, which is exactly why this is a description of what people volunteered and not a survey result.

The sports in those reports are the ones you would expect from that network: rugby, BJJ, surfing, basketball, running. Nobody was blinded and nobody was asked a set question, so read the chart as a description of what people volunteered.

Is it worth the freight

The evidence is four trials, one of which found nothing, and the best of them moved peak power by 8–12% in seven athletes doing repeated sprints. Nothing in that changes because of where you live. What changes is the price, and an imported bottle at an exchange rate is a worse deal than the same bottle bought domestically in the US.

Peak power was higher on the gel in the three sprints that reached statistical significance: 7.6 percent in sprint 2, 8.3 percent in sprint 4 and 12.3 percent in sprint 7. Mean power, heart rate and perceived exertion were unchanged. All four were measured in the same trial.no changePeak power, sprints 2, 4 and 7+7.6 to +12.3%Mean powerno changeHeart rateno changePerceived exertionno change0+5%+10%
Seven world-class rugby sevens players, against a placebo matched for menthol. The peak power bar spans the three sprints that reached significance — +7.6% (d = 0.99), +8.3% (d = 0.74) and +12.3% (d = 0.98). Across all twelve the difference ran from +4.1% to +12.3%. The other three measures are on the chart too, sitting on zero, because showing everything a trial measured is what makes the one that moved believable. Beaven et al. 2025, JISSN.

So the answer is the same one we give everywhere, with freight added: if your training has repeated near-maximal efforts, it is worth one honest month of testing on yourself. If it does not, the trials do not cover you and the shipping makes a speculative purchase more expensive.
